About Lori Russell
I took a batik class 15 years ago but only actively started doing batik about five years ago. I've searched to find a medium that I could use color to create more layers of texture in my art. My main influence is stained glass windows and how the illuminating light contrasts the hard structure of the framework. Batik is a slow-moving yet spontaneous art form--only so much of the process can be planned. I try to capture each phase by photographing each wave of color and wax as it creates a new dimension in the design and influences what direction I take next.
You can see more photos of my batik process on my Facebook photo albums: https://www.facebook.com/LoriDRussell/photos_albums.
Please leave me a comment--I'd really like to know what you think. Thanks...
